Rational Thought -- Part Five
Understanding
Building on the Distinction between
Rational Terms & “Words”
“Word meanings are in the people,
not in the words.”
Whereas, rather than define conversational “meanings,” a rational term prescribes rules for OUTCOME, these “rules” are modeled on “universal laws” that tell you in advance what will be the result of an action you take.
A universal law can mimic or be a law of physics; in rational processing, the laws define cause and effect. It may take more than a millennium tapping the best “minds,” thousands of hours of research, and, even an element of luck to write a universal law to serve and empower mankind. Once written, however, it is labeled “a universal law” as it defines a known relationship between cause and the effect it creates. This “relationship” is one proven to produce an outcome, universally, and without exception, within the perimeters it defines.
Because rational terms are based in law, they define outcome objectively, whereas words define variable “meanings,” which are subjective. They are “subjective” as they are subject to the context in which the word is used -- you cannot count on them to be “true” to you beyond the moment.
A rational term defines a factor value. A word defines a definition of contextual meaning. For illustration, the word “strike” can be what one does with a match, what labor does when contract negotiations are at an impasse, what a fish does to your lure, what prospectors use to express finding gold, and on and on.
Whereas, while a rational term may also be a word frequently used in casual conversation, when used within a rational process its role is not to define mere conversational “meaning,” but to define a factor value specifically to define outcome. The correct rational factor value is profoundly critical to your rational process, if that term is one of the ten-or-less basic core operating terms.
As rational factor values are defined by universal law, in rational context one of the more interesting, if not curious, synonyms for “law” is “miracle.” This is because laws are what make “the impossible,” possible, the miraculous, commonplace.
“Modern miracles” are first a mystery, unmanageable, usually something once believed as not possible, something to which we are lacking a “handle” for application, or prevention. Without an applicable law, the mystery is not manageable, other than possibly dealing with the symptoms produced. That is, until someone writes an “instruction manual,” or, what we label as a universal law, as it defines what we can do to cause or prevent an effect, accurately defining outcome affect.
Whether by experimentation, observation, or by other various means, most of what we take for granted was not in the realm of possibilities, until someone defined and wrote a law. Specific laws defining the cause of an effect, which is universally correct, does so as it translates and articulates the same “code” used by the physical universal. In rational process, we call that “code” the factor value.
One could also say that in the rational process, these factors defining law give you the combination to a “safe” with which you open, inside you, access to the source of links to the full range of potential possible to man. One should also say the analogy that “laws are our keys to the universe” is not in anyway a flawed statement, nor is the qualification that the universe does not, ever, make exceptions to law. Cause-to-effect obeys law without exception to their affect.
Once we know the factors that produce, or turn off, the cause of an outcome, its effective affect, we then have another tool with a handle. One could say the law defining cause is our “handle” to do what was once believed as beyond the realm of possibilities. The factors of law give us the power to transform an aspect of one's life considered utterly “hopeless,” into a transformation that can accurately be described, by that individual, and all that know them, as “a miracle.”
Such personal “miracles” happen every day, in every possible circumstance that one could imagine, though “imagination” is not part of the solution, rather it is the power of the rule of law recognized and applied. Imagination is in many ways superior to intelligence quotient, whereas laws are simply omnipotent, and here, “omnipotent” requires a small “o” not spelled with a capital, even if one must move it from the start of a sentence.
Laws always deliver; laws do not make exceptions, either for an omission to the rules defining its universal code factor, or, to when, where, or who practices the law.
Unlike the instinctive development of other beings in nature, we can know the laws of outcome by rational definition.
We are unique in our access to the power to know tomorrow's outcome. It is said we shape our “houses,” and then they “shape” us. Unlike other beings, we can shape our “houses” by rational factors, avoiding the universes' filling the void of choice with whatever is handy to fill the vacuum. I trust you do not need to discover this from experience, but this much for sure at all levels: The universe abhors a vacuum, indecision, a “lukewarm” focus, ignoring knowledge, ignoring an error to “save face.” Success does come with a price tag, and the price is self-honesty.
So it seems clear that just leaving a vacuum is something to avoid, and it is best to add an element of logical certainty to fill in that void. To direct the direction, and seek direction from plans universally proven to build a better tomorrow, no need to just “try.”
“Universally proven” know-how for your empowerment is no different than any other of mankind's vast collection of “legal plans.” My favorite being the “wings of the miracle” that let man “fly.” So today the wings of rational know-how lift us higher than any bird can fly. Yet some birds fly, others we fry. Same species, different outcome, same as us: Our minds give us “wings,” though some don't know better, others know better, but don't bother to learn. It's a choice up to you.
The laws that define the basis of rational function follow the same laws, which are self-evident regardless of where you look, what you taste, and the many forms you can touch. The universe itself depends upon laws to sustain itself in perpetuity. So, too, do you look for meanings to sustain your life's shadow each day, though mainly to determine just where you will find yourself when comes that long night, with you but a part of its eternal shadow.
Almost all the universal laws you will ever use to quantify your rational output will be drawn from the laws of physics you encounter at the physical level. It's just everyday stuff. The product, the results of these legal rules are mostly seen in finished form and features you can see or experience.
Whereas at the opposite end, the quantum level, too minute to see, we could get away with saying the objectives are more to forming and framing, than focused on the finished product you can see and touch at you level in the universe.
At the quantum level the laws of the universe you use are still on the books, only, at that level, they can vary in jurisdiction. This often confuses people, even to question how a law can make an exception to law, when universal laws do not make exceptions.
More than one law can have jurisdiction, depending on the level, and factors the subject occupies within the universe. An obscure law can rise to dominate, the usual dominate law to a second position without violating it: In a total vacuum, or under extreme heat and pressure, one could say the “court of law” is still true to the unchangeable rule of universal laws, only the “case” is different. Just as all your tomorrows will be just like today, only different. Just as the individual cannot “change,” but will evolve. Which could pose one to ask the obvious question, “Is evolving not change?” The answer: Yes and No, depending on the context, or “jurisdiction” determining the verdict.
One has no choice but to evolve, as our days transform into each tomorrow, we do have a unique choice to define the building codes of tomorrow's promise, the rules under which we develop. As the universe abhors a vacuum, it will allow each tomorrow to pattern on yesterday, with whatever develops as okay. This “whatever” is true whether your life's arrangement is structured legally up-to-code, or, even whether it will serve you or torment you, are never considered - that is up to you. Here the universe is neutral as it is an area in which it has given you jurisdiction by rational default.
Along with our unique gift of rational thought come the responsibilities of self-determination. What you decide is your responsibility. Just as not deciding is up to you, whether you know enough to make the choice or not. The universe does not make exceptions due to ignorance of its laws. What you get will be your logical choice, or, whatever drifts in to fill the void.
The rigid, or some would say harsh; aspect of your creation that comes with being given absolute responsibility to self-manage determination is the fact that there are no exceptions given if the outcome is disastrous. Power cuts both ways. Measure the cut with logic; there will be no appeal. The time to know is before you bring down your verdict.
Only the power of rational outcome can assure better tomorrows, and it is totally up to you to learn the “rules.” Even as a rationally endowed and fully equipped member of the human-class, not one of us can ever make an appeal and win an exception to universal law; regardless of age, ignorance, or even the disabled lacking rational capacity. The universe is neutral.
Every species on earth has some aspect of specialization that allows it to exist. From wings, gills, heightened sense of smell, acute hearing, keen sight, night vision, and even “radar,” to each species is given their key to survival; though they must develop that edge to compete with their own kind possessing the same advantage.
Our singular key is our ability to rationally quantify. And, just as in other species, not all will make the grade. Some will not survive; others will never “live, “but merely “exist.” The universe does not make exceptions; particularly in us, perhaps, because we are in charge of making our own choices, possibly because all earthly beings are given all they need, whether they chose to recognize it, or not. Learning what is needed to make it all work is what selects, grades, quantifies, who best survives to seed the next cycle.
We are fortunate in our ability to learn rational “rules” using our rational mind itself to assure us of validity as we progress. Using knowledge of universal rules can be done with confidence as we see the effects of law on a daily basis in everything we do. Yesterday I pitched rocks from the lawn to the driveway, knowing whatever has a mass heavier that gas and goes up, will obey the law of gravity and come sagging down out of the path of the lawnmower.
Later, when I took my shower, I also observed the same law was in a partnership with “time” and, places, once snug, were now sagging and shifting downward, and, of all things, a few of yesterday's hairs were no longer all there! Not in the shower, not on my towel, I even checked my pillow, so where went that hair?
Soon the mystery was answered, but what's hair doing there?” Mostly, all were still there, it seems gravity just pulled them down a bit further. They were still on the move, however, still outward bound, curling from my nose and as sprouts from my ears. This must be so, as I'm all but sure I didn't start out this way.
It is said time takes, and age gives. I say it can be switched either way and still have nothing to say that would improve my day. It seems better to take time to know more, to do more, than be gauged by limits of age; besides I found that this process of “aging” is not for “sissies,” and I need every advantage available to get me through. Whatever the age, what we understand, determines where we stand, what we stand for, and understanding gives the power to choose the outcome of our choice.
Age does give us increased exposure to learning and compounds the evidence as to the value of seeking know-how, rather then the more typical scratching one's head after the fact, surprised by the event and wondering “just how”… The silent voice of ignorance is not bliss, unless a conversation turns to politics, and, even then, chances are good, ignorance of the one doing the talking, soon becomes self-evident.
We all start from a similar place: we start from nothing, we know nothing, but we are not ignorant, even when the mental slate is blank. The rational context of “ignorant” is to ignore knowledge that is available. It is not correct to say pioneer citizens were “ignorant” of a modern understanding. Rather, one is only ignorant when they ignore know-how available to them during their time in the sun.
By in large, today's citizen may or may not be “ignorant” of rational literacy, as the technology has not been accessible to most. To fill the void, there are some inherent “rules” of rational context vaguely represented as assumptions, and mainly as old nostrums of questionable authority.
Let us summarize the important of understanding the distinction between the rational terms we will be learning, and common words with various “meanings.”
A rational term is a “meaning” representing knowledge in a universally workable mode. It is like an instant “meal in a box,” ready to use.
Whereas, “knowledge of meaning” in common words can be as simple as knowing what “strike” means in relation to how to strike a match. Common words are seldom capable of being as subtle, however, as to apply the rational distinction between stress and distress, and occasionally duress, which have distinctly different meanings not defined in casual conversations. These distinctions will be covered in a future section, as lacking the rational context of stress and distress, in particular, is a critically needed understanding.
A rational term's “meaning,” its factor value, is learned and defined in advance, whereas “word meanings” are at the subjective emotional level of the moment, and the emotional state of the individual can cause wide variations in interpretation. What better example of this than the subjective word meaning of “value,” which depends upon whether you are buying or selling.
Once installed in our awareness, rational terms function as a habitual response at a higher level than the conscious world of daily maintenance. They “run silent, run deep” to quantify ideas guided by a core of knowledge that is rational literacy, your knowledge of a term's “meaning,” its factor value defined by law.
We use the comprehension gained from the knowledge of terms to (1) establish values at the core operating level.
Next that value is used for (2) accounting to assess the “goal significance,” or “objective value” to the objectives pre-established.
We like to call this last part (2) the accounting.
Whereas, the first step (1) as “counting the money,” to determine it factor value, whether it was a factor of 9, or a factor value of two.
Whereas (2) accounting is whether the determined amount applies to a “mortgage payment,” or “a receipt for bubble gum.” The total of (1) & (2) both of these conclusions processes is labeled “quantifying.”
We quantify in two basic ways:
First, we decide value.
Second, we use that value to next determine “the accounting” function.
This is just as you do in math, when you, first, give “7” a value of seven. Then, second, when you apply the “accounting” function, which determines what that value relates to, or to which “account” it should be addressed.
Just as in math where there is no number so large you cannot add another to it, but no number so insignificant in value you have the freedom to get its value wrong, so goes rational context.
If you run a business, your “bookkeeping” mimics rational quantifying. First you “count” the value of daily income and expenses and write it down.
The next level is the “accounting” function that determines what expenses is tax deductible, what income is taxed differently, where all the values go on the financial statement.
Next as to where the tallies go on the form to be reviewed by that smiling band of the nice people from The Internal Revenue Service.
One also must be mindful of our good friends from the revenue collectors for The State, The City, and The County, The Assessor's off, and oh yes… that always pleasant and kind fellow who gets a percentage of the gross as part of the lease agreement, and only audits the accounting process each quarter as merely “a formality,” as he “trusts” you.
The dilemma to this quantifying process at the rational level is to avoid the tendency for “exceptions,” from the human tendency to drift to subjugating objective priorities to what your “emotional children” want “right now!”
Which is to say that establishing what you want, with what you know right now, is not only the best way to grow a defense against later “default” losses to instant gratification. I suggest you first direct your understanding to self-understanding, by asking if your present affairs are the result of a conscious adult decision, or, it is possible that some forgotten notion established as a teenager is in charge of your “logistics” controls? More often than not, especially if a male, this notion may still be in charge of your future at a level beyond your control.
This is for sure: Start with today. Your standing today, this day, is less important than whether, through understanding, you break any old cycles. Then make the move into the upper level, among life's beneficiaries that have defined “their will” objectively, and have legally defined their goals. Once goals are correctly defined, you have established the singular objectives your highest-level rational process requires to create your future, over merely “a future.”
